TOP Favorite Personal Development Books

Since becoming a beachbody coach, one of the main vital behaviors is read personal development. What is it? If you were like me, when my coach told me I had to read I just wasn't having it.

Don't get me wrong I like to read, but I had no idea what it was. You mean to tell me that I can read and my whole mindset would change...believe it when I see it. You can see I was very skeptical at first & I would do it here and there. I'm not sure I finished one single book at first, then when my coach asked if I was reading (she knew I wasn't) I had to say no. Then I kept hearing over and over again all the top coaches were reading personal development. It kept coming out up over and over again. And if they were successful I had to start doing what they were doing.

There are sooooo many personal development books out there that are great. But I highly suggest before you start picking the ones others are reading you evaluate yourself and pinpoint your weaknesses. When you find what those are look for books to help improve that area and then move on.

But there are a few everyone can start with.

1. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen
personal development books - the slight edge

2. The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy
personal development books - compound effect

3. Break Out by Joel Osteen
personal development books - break out

4. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
personal development books - the secret

5. Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy
personal development books - eat that frog

6. PUSH by Chalene Johnson
personal development books - push

7. The Big Picture by Tony Horton
personal development books - the big picture

8. Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Buchard
personal development books - motivation manifesto

Each book is targeted to something different, but each have contributed to teaching me something new. When you read something positive and uplifting your mindset instantly changes. It really makes you stop and think about what you read & puts a whole different perspective on things. The successes come from consistently overtime making sacrifices and doing the small tasks daily. It's the snowball effect, you start small til you get up the top of the hill and when you hit the peak , the snowball gradually starts to get bigger and bigger. Being successful doesn't happen over night, so when the going gets tough, if you really want it just keep going. Push through the tough times and know the better days are just around the bend.

If you read any of these please reach out to me, I would love to know what you think. Or email me - alyssayourish@gmail.com if you would like some more personal development books to read.

My All Time Favorite Podcasts

When I joined as a beachbody coach, oh awhile back they kept talking about the three vitals behaviors & one of those being personal development. I had no idea what anyone was talking about so I just listened to their advice. And I'm a little slow with the iPhone apps they told me about podcast. I instantly downloaded it and fell in love. Instead of listening to all the negative going into work, I found some uplifting ones to listen too & it knocks out my personal development for the day!

positive thoughts

1. Discovery - church app. Get your daily dose of devotion. The past discussions are listed. So if you missed a week or thought one was extremely helpful.

2. Brendon Burchard - I have been on a kick of listening to his stuff..any chance I get. His podcasts aren't that long 15 minutes tops, but he is so real. He speaks the truth, always positive, and I love that it seems like he is speaking to you when you are listening.

3. Joel Osteen - he is another more church related, but he speaks about the bigger picture. Ways to become a better person within yourself and the desire to do more. His books are also phenomenal.

4. The Chalene Show - by none other than fitness guru Chalene Johnson. She is the creator of turbo fire, Chalene extreme, and Piyo. She has an act for being an amazing mentor and I love that she also brings others in on her show. It's not all about fitness but also business tips.

relax

These are the ones I mainly listen to, but I listen to them everyday. It really makes the time go faster when you are sitting in traffic to and from work. Plus the positivity and how it makes you feel after oh AHHHmazing!!

Just Start Somewhere

Starting a new journey can be tough.

Starting over can be tough.

Getting back on track can be tough.

Planning to succeed but failing can be tough.

Weight Loss Journey

I have to be honest, I have been lazy with my blog posts. I haven't been keeping you in the loop with my progress, my life, recipes, tips, etc. LAZY is all I can say. And I was slacking because I was looking for that perfect topic and I didn't want it to be a dead end. But you know what...my personal development for the month - John C. Maxwell "Failing Forward." has really kicked me in the butt. This book is teaching me to fail, it is teaching me to take bigger risks, and never gives up. So, if one person reads this blog or 150 people read this blog I am happy.

Where have I been, well let me just start by saying February was an EPIC month with beachbody. They released the 21 Day Fix and this program did so well that they just couldn't keep the program on the shelves. I decided that this was going to be my first challenge group where I joined the challengers! The results were AHHHHH-MAZZZZING!! I had great results, i lost six lbs and i didn't even think i needed to lose weight. And as much as this program is awesome I needed something else, because I was just going for the ordinary. (which BTW is NOT okay).

Weight Loss Tips

So now what? Where do I go what program do I start. I highly believe you have to love what you are doing or why do it. But then I got to thinking, not everyone loves to workout. BUT if you want to lose weight, tone up, etc. You have to put in the work CORRECT.

But you also can not look for that "perfect" program. Your journey in life just begins....it starts with decision of you putting one foot in front of the other. Maybe you know where you are going & maybe you don't but all that matters is you just START!

Don't look at where you need to go, look at it as a new journey. A new start to your new beginning.

Don't get discouraged when you fail. Failing is part if the journey, embrace it & soak it all in.

Time Management

Do you have a problem with time management. Are you one of those people who feels like they are going to pull their hair out and thinks there is just not enough time in the day to get things done. Ever feel like you have a million and one things to do, but how are you going to find the time to do it?

I struggled/struggle with the problem all the time, although, I must admit though I am getting better. So I figured if I struggle I am sure there are other people out there who struggle and may just need some tips to help them through and feel like there has been a little weight lifted off their shoulders.

A. Make a list of 5 categories that are important to you (1 being the most important). Once you make this list you need to start putting things in which your top five list will see the benefits from. These aren't the only things you will focus on, but if these are things you value, you want to add value in your life.

B.  Prioritize your To-Do List. It may be the most dreaded thing ever but this really cuts off unwanted wandering and straying. Link A & B so before you go to bed think of everything you have to do the next morning. Once you do that make sure you are putting list A and those priorities first. So, everything you have listed as #1 : what on your list will help you achieve that...etc.

C. Stay away from distractions. When you are working on your to-do list (and I need to get better at this) stay off social media, turn your cell phone off ; put it away. Do not be a social media stalker. It is so easy to get distracted when scrolling through Facebook, or spend hours on Pinterest...right?

D. Make Sacrifices. Everyone has the same amount of hours in the day. Some days (depending) on your list; you may need to get up earlier than usually and sometimes even stay up later. Maybe skipping your favorite TV show for a later date. And even say no to some plans in the making.

E. When you finish a task make sure you check it off the list. There is nothing better than the feeling of crossing something off your to-do list. You feel a little better knowing you are one step closer to finishing your list.

Time Management is by far one of the hardest things for some people. We get caught up in the moment. We don't realize that there is only twenty-four hours in the day. Or if we do, we do not know how to properly use it. Sometimes all we need to do is rearrange our schedule every once in a while.

If you are looking to learn a little more about Time Management and how you can better your time or come up with different ideas, I just finished reading the book called "Time Management" by Brian Tracy it is an easy read ; and highly recommended.
