How to Avoid Holiday Eating

With the holidays comes family time, delicious dinners that we don't always get to enjoy, and of course overeating. Indulging a little more than we would like and the after feeling of bloating, sleepiness, etc. So how do you enjoy the holidays without overeating?

Holiday Survival Guide

- This is a normal day  wake up like you would any other day. Get up, get your workout in, have your meals scheduled out & stick to your plans.

- What's your plan  make sure you write out your game plan. From the time you are waking up, your meal plan, when you are eating, what you are going to indulge in. If you don't have a plan it will be easy for you to slip up and fall off track.

- Stay hydrated make sure you are getting your water in. (half your body weight in ounces) You very well could be dehydrated instead of hungry. I challenge you to drink a glass of water every hour. For every alcoholic drink, have a glass of water.

- Stick to your portions of course you can enjoy your holiday meals, but make sure you don't over do it. You want to feel good & not bloated after eating.  You can overdo all your hardwork in one meal.

- Get your workouts in get a good 30 minute cardio session before you start your day. This will help you increase your energy, feel great, and you won't feel as guilty eating your favorite cookie.

-Don't feel guilty  remember the holidays are a time to enjoy your company with family. Stick to your plan, enjoy yourself, and remember this a lifestyle change. If you over indulge start fresh the next day.

My All Time Favorite Podcasts

When I joined as a beachbody coach, oh awhile back they kept talking about the three vitals behaviors & one of those being personal development. I had no idea what anyone was talking about so I just listened to their advice. And I'm a little slow with the iPhone apps they told me about podcast. I instantly downloaded it and fell in love. Instead of listening to all the negative going into work, I found some uplifting ones to listen too & it knocks out my personal development for the day!

positive thoughts

1. Discovery - church app. Get your daily dose of devotion. The past discussions are listed. So if you missed a week or thought one was extremely helpful.

2. Brendon Burchard - I have been on a kick of listening to his stuff..any chance I get. His podcasts aren't that long 15 minutes tops, but he is so real. He speaks the truth, always positive, and I love that it seems like he is speaking to you when you are listening.

3. Joel Osteen - he is another more church related, but he speaks about the bigger picture. Ways to become a better person within yourself and the desire to do more. His books are also phenomenal.

4. The Chalene Show - by none other than fitness guru Chalene Johnson. She is the creator of turbo fire, Chalene extreme, and Piyo. She has an act for being an amazing mentor and I love that she also brings others in on her show. It's not all about fitness but also business tips.

These are the ones I mainly listen to, but I listen to them everyday. It really makes the time go faster when you are sitting in traffic to and from work. Plus the positivity and how it makes you feel after oh AHHHmazing!!

Pamper Yourself

Sometimes all we need is a little "spa" day to make ourselves relax from the day to day life. You know, where you are running around like crazy from the time you wake up til you have to get to bed. There are people out there who never take a moment to just stop and relax. I know I was/still am (a little) guilty of this! Sometimes you think that rushing around and getting things done is the way to do it. But in reality it is nice to treat yourself or even do it at your own home, take a moment for yourself, step away from technology, and just unplug!

relaxation tips

1. Take a warm bath with your favorite Epsom salt (my scent is lavender). It just instantly relaxes me and puts a smile on my face. Add a little lavender oil too to take it up a notch. You don't have to be in the tub long at least 20 minutes though so you can take deep breaths and the smells will instantly calm you.

2. Curl up on the chair with a good book. Reading is one of my favorite things to do. There is nothing better than putting your feet up, wrapped in a blanket, and getting lost in a good book.

3. Muscles sore and your body is aching? Either jump in the shower and alternate water temperature from hot to cold this helps to improve circulation in your body.

4. Go out and talk a walk/run. I find that coming home from work sometimes and going out to run around the neighborhood or take our fur baby out for a walk is so relaxing. If I am walking and Eric is home I tend to leave my phone there so I can just soak in the scenery. If I am running I have it with me and I am listening to something motivational.

5. Meditate. Literally pick a quiet place. Leave your phone shut off, tv turned off, etc. Close your eyes and just take deep breaths for about ten minutes. Think of your day and let it all go.

6. At the end of the day before you go to bed, take a moment and write 3 things you are grateful for each day.
